BBC website gets all social

Posted by: Mercury Thread In: IMJUK| Social Bookmarking

The BBC website is one of the biggest UK website there is. Updating website content every moment of every day with stories ranging from Sports to Finance to Travel they’re often at the forefront of online news provision. Today I noticed they’re making a move into social bookmarking.

Social Bookmarking on the BBC

When I was catching up on the sport over the weekend, and all things FFC, I noticed that buttons for Del.icio.us, Digg, Reddit, Facebook and Stumble Upon were appearing at the bottom of the stories.

This could be a good way for a strong site to get even stronger. It would appear that the BBC have learned that not only does social bookmarking bring you links it brings you traffic. No doubt they’ve seen a rise in traffic from sources cited independently on these sites and have placed the buttons to allow users to bookmark stories more easily.

They’ve also put up a social bookmarks information page on the site - providing some help to those who dont use social bookmarking at present. I’m glad to see that the BBC website continues to evolve rather than stagnate like many online news sources - you ever tried reading many UK news papers online!
