Google Webmaster Tools - Sitelinks control
Have been writing a post for a couple of days about the Google PageRank update that has been getting the goat of so many people just now. I have to say I haven’t seen any change apart from a small drop here and a small drop there but nothing on the scale I keep hearing about. I don’t know enough to add anything to the current debate, yet, so I thought I’d post about some nifty little bits and pieces that I’ve been seeing in Google Webmaster Tools (formerly Google sitemaps).
Google Sitelinks
The first change I’ve noticed is the ability to go in an effect the sitelinks that show for a domain. The sitelinks info is listed under Links -> Sitelinks in the left hand side navigation. The Webmaster Tools console says
“Sitelinks are additional links Google sometimes generates from site contents in order to help users navigate your site. Google generates these sitelinks periodically from your site’s contents.
Because we generate sitelinks dynamically, this list can change from time to time.”
Below this is a list of the sitelinks for a domain and a link that says [block] when you click on this you get a box appearing where you can block an individual sitelink. This can be for reasons such as the sitelink points to a page that no longer exists, the title element is inaccurate, you dont want the page empahsized in the SERPs or other. This seems kinda nifty - as it now at least gives us an element of control.
Google Historical Information
This information can be located in Tools -> Set Crawl Rate
Have also noticed a change in data output for spidering information. You now get a small graph showing how many times the site was crawled, how much data was downloaded and the time apent downloading a page. I dont think this is going to do much for my SEO campaigns but no doubt someone will ask me how much banwidth google used last month at some point :p
Google PageRank Update October 2007
I’m away to run about the web, have a coffee and try and work out this PageRank stuff - no doubt Matt Cutts will post something soon about it. He’s probably trying to locate who spilt the Coke across the PageRank calaculating machine in the Googleplex as I write. If you are looking for some info on whats going on with PageRank have a look at:
There are far more than these two but they have both amused me - even if they haven’t asked for me to include them on my Internet Marketing Map but you win some you lose some :p Oh well am off to think about bad linking practices, unethical seo and some other stuff that could be crashing PageRank on other peoples sites.

I’ve had a few new websites (less than 2 months old) jump from zero to PR3.
i don;t really hunt for PR any more, but I suppose I should keep an eye on it.
