Social websites (kinda)

I love the growth in these ’social websites’ – I’m never too sure whats considered as being social media these days. Everything that can be used to leverage traffic – sorry I mean friends – seems to be within this field. Here are some that I really like
Quick Ribbon
I hate websites that have those fake ribbons/armbands in the top corner. I find them bloody annoying – mainly I support their message but all the same they can be a bit crass. Quick Ribbon lets idiots make their own ribbons. The reason I mention this is that My friend Ronnie Young – he of Hey Asda fame – hacked one of these together a couple of years ago. His stated not to ‘Save the children’ or to ‘Stop the War’ rather he chose the most erudite of slogans ‘Blogs are Pish’. In his honour I built the banner at the top of this post
Travel Digger
I was just chatting to Colin and he was telling me about his latest project – a social bookmarking website dedicated to news from the travel industry. It’s called ‘Travel Digger‘. Looks like its doing quite well – seems to be growing pretty fast for a new web site. It’s based on Pligg – the same system that is used by Sphinn.
Who’s Web
I love Google maps mashups. There is something cool about blending this technology in new ways to make cool and exciting projects. One of the nicest I’ve found is Who’s Web kinda like my little mashup but bigger. May have to see which of his ideas I can develop into my system.
If you know any more social media sites that I should have mentioned let me know.
